World Press Freedom Day Candlelit Vigil in Colombo, May 3, 2008
The Sri Lankan journalism community gathered in Colombo to mark World Press Freedom Day by remembering their fallen colleagues in a candlelit vigil. As part of the "Stop the War on Journalists in Sri Lanka" campaign, journalists, family members and press freedom supporters carried placards with an image and name of a media worker who had lost their life in their line of work.
In 2007, six journalists were killed making Sri Lanka one of the most dangerous countries in the world for the profession.
